Tonight’s show brings musicians who not only revive but enrich the so-called gypsy jazz (the French call it "manouche") of the 1920s. The Hot Club of Detroit are southeastern Michigan’s own band of Django Reinhart revivalists. They include Marseilles-born accordionist Julien Labro, who provides a direct link to the French musette style from which French jazz grew, while tenor saxophonist Carl Cafagna introduces bop and postbop elements to the music. It’s an infectious mix! The music of Long Island–born Frank Vignola breaks down the barriers between popular music and traditional jazz to create a unique acoustic string music experience. His all-virtuoso quintet mixes high-energy original material with unique renditions of contemporary tunes to create a smoking-hot blend of contemporary acoustic rock, gypsy jazz, bluegrass, swing, and blues. The late guitar titan Les Paul named Frank one of the five guitarists he admires most. Frank’s new album, "Frank Vignola’s Hot Club," is a centennial tribute to Django Reinhardt.
