DJ Jonah aka Tim Hagan is a DJ / producer who’s worked with the likes of KillaQueenz, Wayne Lotek, West Labz Sound, Alpha Mama, Mr Clean and Radical Son. His latest project is as a solo experimental beats dj / producer under the pseudonym of Studio Tann. Inspired by the artists like J Dilla, Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, and Raymond Scott, Studio Tann portrays a futurist swagger with gritty imperfections transcended into creative expressions. With a track on the soon to be released Wonky Space Beats compilation on Frequency Labs and a solo album in the making the future looks bright for this sun deprived bedroom beatsmith. Emma G & Jess Hartley have been storming the NZ drum & bass scene with their soulfully, sassy liquid d&b sets for some time now, developing their exquisite musical taste to include only the freshest and groove-worthy sounds in clubs and on radio.
With a combined DJing background in drum & bass and house music of around 15 years, their latest sets create a hybrid of the musical love affairs they have with both. The result? “Liquid Funk Drum & Bass” – the sound they have come to represent.
It was in back in ’05 when the magical “Jess & Emma” alliance began with the creation of “The Jess & Emma Show” on George FM. Jess & Emma’s special love of anything soulful, moody, intelligent or funky, proved their delicious tunes to be a hit on George FM.
So in 2006 Jess & Emma united with Subtronix and Fu Bar to create the infamous “Liquid Recreation” monthly night to showcase the magic of their sound in a club environment. Now almost 3 years old, this party is well established as one of, if not the most fun, unique, and top quality nights out on the local Auckland drum & bass scene and the girls are now all set on bringing the d&b party vibe to the rest of the country!
The duo now currently host the all-new Liquid Rec Radio on George FM, have supported numerous amazing international DJs including Patife, Artificial Intelligence, Marcus Intalex, Doc Scott, Calibre, LTJ Bukem, Lynx & Alix Perez, Nu:Tone & Cyantific, Calibre & DRS and feature at many big dance events and club gigs in and around Aotearoa.
