One year after I started this night at the now closed Floridita in Leeds, we celebrate the first birthday with a very special funk band....the one and only New Mastersounds! Leeds’ finest funk sons who went on to conquer the world will be live onstage with a host of special guests....former New Matsersounds band members Cleve Freckleton (vocals), the Haggis Horns brass section and Bob Birch (hammond organ). The first half of their set will feature songs from the latest CD "Ten Years On", whilst the second half will have the guests onstage playing tracks from their early period, including the first LP "Keb Darge Presents The New Mastersounds" and the early singles.....
PLUS, support comes from New Mastersounds main man and guitarist Eddie Roberts and his Roughneck jazz quintet, featuring tracks from their forthcoming CD "The Rough & The Smooth" with special guest vocalist Keni (aka Rhianna Kenny)......
DJs on the night are the original Yardbird Suite/DIG! Family DJs Lubi (thats me) and Gip Dammone...mixing up the fat funk, deep soul, reggae vibrations, afrobeats, latin grooves and boogie flavour!
Finally, One Note Records, the New Mastersounds label, will have a stall in the club selling all past and present releases from the band and also Roughneck....
The New Mastersounds play 6 gigs in the UK each year, this is the first one for 2010...be there!
