About 60 contemporary companies and choreographers will be presented over 19 performances during this two-week long extravaganza of cutting-edge dancemaking. All performances will take place at WHITE WAVE John Ryan Theater, located at 25 Jay Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn. Kicking off the celebration is a special Opening Night performance with a wine and cheese reception with music by the Bossa Nova Beatniks, all other festival performances will be presented to the public free of charge.
The Cool New York DANCE Festival originated in 2004 as a component of Cool New York, the City’s winter celebration of "arts and parks" events. Our Festival features both young luminaries and well-known ensembles, bringing a wide spectrum of talents from all across the United States and beyond into the New York City spotlight. WHITE WAVE’s regular programs include a variety of educational programs for children, which we incorporate into the CNYDF’s family-friendly programming: two free "A Day for the Family" matinees. Our family audiences enjoy the art of movement together, instilling the love of dance in both young and old.
Groups selected to appear at the CNYDF include some of the most innovative dance-makers that have appeared in prior WHITE WAVE festivals, as well as newly acclaimed choreographers. These include: JKing Dance Company, ETCH Dance Company, DaNaKa Dance (Israel), Neville Dance Theatre, KerPlunk, Jessica Gaynor Dance, DiMauro Dance, NY2 Dance, Yoo & Dancers, Anne Burnidge Dance, BARKIN/SELISSEN PROJECT, Yin Yue Dance Company, Malcolm Low, Gehring Dancetheatre,Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre, Artis Smith, and WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company, just to name a few.
