more info coming soon! As a collective of students, faculty, and friends, KP exists to educate, preserve, and promote awareness of Filipinos to the various communities of San Diego while supporting Filipino students at UCSD. Magkasama is San Diego’s annual festival of Filipino art, history, and culture. Literally meaning, “Coming together,” Magkasama will take place at UCSD’s Price Center Ballrooms A & B on Saturday, November 7th, 2009. As this will be KP’s 12th year holding the event, we have decided to alter the format and add a new exciting atmosphere to Magkasama, by transforming it from a festival setting to an evening Benefit Showcase. Proceeds from our event will go towards the South Bay Women’s Recovery Home, which is a charity that KP greatly supports. The nonprofit South Bay Women’s Recovery Home in San Diego is a place of hope and restoration for women who struggle with alcohol and drugs. The charity continues to help broken women put the pieces of their lives back together. As stated in the Home’s goals: “The Home provides structure, counseling and other social services to help the women to turn their lives around and learn to have value and a higher self esteem. Our goal is to see each woman entering the program graduating to a new sober life with a positive new future.” The Benefit Showcase aims to offers various up and coming musical artists, comedians, dance groups, and other talented individuals and groups the space and opportunity to entertain the community while helping us raise funds that will go towards an incredible cause. With the involvement of numerous organizations on and off campus we hope to build, maintain, and promote diversity, learning, and understanding throughout the community.
