Amy Studt’s debut album ’False Smiles’ sold over 200,000 copies and featured three Top 20 singles - ’Just a Little Girl’, ’Under the Thumb’ and most notably ’Misfit’. Studt then stepped out from the spotlight to take time out to refine and develop her maturing writing style returning with her band in 2006, supporting Razorlight under the alias of "Jane Wails". During this time she also penned material for her second album, "My Paper Made Men", which was released under 19’s Indie imprint in 2008 with further chart success for the single “Nice Boys” in early 2009. With influences ranging from Annie Lennox, Alanis Morrisette and The Dresden Dolls, Amy has recorded with some of the most sought-after producers and writers in the business including Guy Sigworth, John Fortis, Mark ’Spike’ Stent, Eg White and Marcella Detroit. Having played at events such as the O2 Festival, BBC Party in the Park and Top of the Pops Amy Studt is an experienced and captivating artist whose intimate stage manner belies her spine-tingling vocal performances. Amy now works independently from any management, record label or publishing involvement and having built a studio in the Surrey countryside she is currently preparing new material as well as rehearsing familiar favourites. Drawing on her loyal, homegrown UK fan base and developing a network of fellow musicians, artists and producers, Amy Studt is building support from the ground up starting with an acoustic tour this November accompanied by Connor McDonald on guitar and backing vocals. Press quotes “..she’s ablaze: pungent songwriting and vocal range from sweat-drenched sensuality to icebox isolation, Studt looks at herself, men, women, relationships, sees it all and says it all with fragile, savage precision. Rude double-entendres and ruthless memorability of tune make you want to take that rough ride with her again and again.” MOJO **** “Musically it should keep Kate Bush fans happy, Sad Sad World would sit well on a PJ Harvey album and She Walks Beautiful echoes soul-searching female singers from Fiona Apple to Tori Amos.” Sunday Times “Amy Studts’ first new music in four years possesses a wilting understated charm that strikes an emotional impact.” Music Week “Positively incandescent torch-singing Londoner with a hair-raising emotional range that varies from cut-glass fragility to cat-o’-nine-tails avenger.” LA Times
