Join us this holiday season as Sister Carol leads in on a reggae rich celebration of Kwanzaa! One of the dancehall era’s few successful female DJs, Sister Carol was something like reggae’s answer to Queen Latifah: a strong, positive feminist voice who is inspired by her faith and never resorts to sexual posturing to win an audience. Leaning heavily on socially conscious material, Sister Carol delivers uplifting and cautionary messages drawn from her Rastafarian principles, while always urging respect for women. She is more of a singjay than a full-time toaster, capable of melodic vocals as well as solid rhymes.
Opening up to take this celebration to the tip top, is one of Austin’s favorite reggae bands, Don Chani. Upbeat and oozing with positive energy, Chani fills the room with dancing bodies and smiling faces. A perfect way to kick off the night!
