Cuarteto Latinoamericano, formed in 1982, is renowned worldwide as the leading proponent of Latin American music for string quartet. This award-winning ensemble has recorded most of the Latin American repertoire for string quartet, and the sixth volume of their Villa-Lobos quartet cycle was nominated for a Grammy and Latin Grammy in 2002. The Cuarteto has toured extensively around the world and was in residence at Carnegie Mellon University from 1988 until 2008. Under the auspices of the SNOJIV, the Cuarteto created the Latin American Academy for String Quartets in Caracas. This panel discussion precedes their concert at Miller Theatre, which will include pieces by Villa-Lobos, Revueltas, Piazzolla, Alvarez, and Ginastera.
