David Lindley is a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist (his instruments include a variety of instruments such as banjo, kettle drums, lap steel guitar, violin, oud, cittern, bouzouki, saz, and cümbüş). During 1966 to 1970 he was part of the eclectic psychedelic bandKaleidoscope. He is well-known for his work as a session musician, particularly for rock musicians, having played with Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, Linda Ronstadt, Curtis Mayfield, James Taylor, David Crosby, Terry Reid, Graham Nash, Bob Dylan and Rod Stewart. He has also collaborated with fellow guitarists Ry Cooder and Henry Kaiser and led his own band, ’El Rayo X.’ Artist Ben Harper has credited Lindley’s distinctive slide guitar style as a major influence on his own playing.
