Quiet City by Aaron Copland comes from incidental music originally written to accompany a play by Irwin Shaw. Martin Ellerby’s Paris Sketches is a four movement piece, each movement paying homeage to the composers beloved Paris. The piece also pays tribute to composers who lived and worked in the French capital. Four Maryland Songs by Jack Stamp was commissioned by the University of Maryland chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma (honorary band service fraternity and sorority) and features a soprano soloist and the text comes from poetry written about Maryland. Lincolnshire Posy by Percy Grainger is described by the composer as a bunch of "musical wildflowers" and based on folksongs collected in Lincolnshire, England. Commissioned by the American Bandmasters Association and premiered at their convention with the compser conducting, Lincolnshire Posy has since been recognized as a cornerstone of wind ensemble repertoire.
