William D Drake’s cult status amongst the psychedelic cognoscenti as an exceptionally gifted, quintessentially English songwriter/composer and gentleman eccentric has been well earned. His previous work in Cardiacs and Sea Nymphs alone places him in highest echelons and his solo work confirms his unique ability to conjure previously unimaginable colours of wonderment from a piano. Tonight’s support is from pianist Crayola Lectern and his band, comprising another former Cardiac Jon Poole, and Hamilton Yarns’ trumpeter Al Strachan, performing songs of ’melanchodelia’.
