Afro-Zep is the brainchild of Marshall Greenhouse (founder and member of Chicago Afrobeat Project from 2001-2008), Wilson (1000 Vertical Feet) and Ryan Behling (Starrunner, Ron: The Band). The three have been relentlessly working on original arrangements that mash up Led Zeppelin with the funk and groove of Afro-pop and Afro-beat artists such as Fela Kuti, and Thomas Mapfumo. Marshall (drum-kit), Wilson (guitar/vocals) and Ryan (bass and lead vocals) bring years of road experience with them and an all-star cast of Chicago musicians they have met along the way. Adding the true traditional West African element is Master-drummer Sekou Conde on djembe. Nick Sednew and Mike Salter, who’s past experience includes Chicago Afrobeat, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, L’Ochestre Super Vitesse, Alan Gresik’s Swingshift Orchestra, among many others, take on the role of transforming many of Robert Plant’s vocal lines and Jimmy Page’s guitar leads to powerful horn heads. Rounding out the line-up is Dan Moulder on keys and vocals. Dan is one of the most in-demand keyboard players in the city and currently tours with Tom Schraeder, Deanna Devore, Grammar and Shala. Due to the rigorous schedules of its performers, the Afro-Zep live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The group will be touring early this Fall around the Midwest and has no plans for future performances. Be sure to check out Afro-Zep while they are around. DADDY DANK will open the night with their own brand of Psychedelic Funk & Experimental Rock.
