Tell Your Friends You Saw... Darren Hayman and the Secondary Modern.
"Vic Godard is demonstrably far more important than Joe Strummer. John Lennon was OK in his field, but basically a poor man’s Vivian Stanshall. The Verve sold a few records in the late ’90s, but obviously they were never going to have a career like David Devant & His Spirit Wife.
There exists a world where all of these statements are true. I should know; I live there. People sometimes try to point out to me that this world is not real. It doesn’t work.
These gigs will be a window into the strange little world that I doggedly cling on to. The Theatre in the Mill is a wonderful 100-150 capacity theatre venue on the campus of Bradford University, a 20-minute train ride from Leeds. They won’t be for everyone but I’m certain there will be a few things happening here that a small number of people are going to cherish and talk about for weeks in a way that could never happen at your average big University union gig. In short, it’s going to be ace."
