1016 Coal SW 3, @ The new UnKind,
Cost: $5 donations appreciated, All Welcome
Attention Hipsters & Collector Scum!
Bone up on your obscuro music trivia! I’ve amassed quite a stack of awesome rock docs just begging to be seen, so that’s my plan for the winter. I’ll be showing 2 docs (and maybe some short vids) every 2nd & 4th Fri. night unless otherwise noted. Perfect to get primed for a night on the DT. Also great for drinking games, like every time Thurston Moore or Byron Coley are featured in front of their record collections, or whenever Henry Rollins opens his mouth.
Tonight will focus on the Pacific Northwest, with bands you may remember from Hype!, the doc about the Seattle music scene. First up is The Gits, about a hugely influential but scarcely-known band in pre-“grunge” Seattle, and a murder that left a lasting scar on that scene. Followed by Unknown Passage: The Dead Moon Story, which I can’t recommend highly enough. Portland’s Dead Moon is THE classic garage punk band; they truly live the DIY ethic that most others only preach. And if you think a proper rock’n’roll story has to contain getting screwed by the industry, massive drug abuse & insanity, either sellout or unfair neglect & dismissal, unreasonable fame followed by the inevitable crash…Unknown Passage will make you think again. Fucking beautiful, and totally inspiring.
