1201 South Steele Street, Denver, Colorado 80210
Cost: $10

Centered on themes of love, humanity, and metamorphosis, Melissa Axel’s music has been described as “heartbreak, hope, and transformation distilled through gorgeous piano and a fearlessly intimate vocal.” At just eight years of age, she was writing songs about the bittersweet journey of life, love, struggle, and inspiration — and not much has changed since. This proverbial “girl and a piano” follows in the heady footsteps of fellow redhead Tori Amos’s early work, fusing a myriad of contemporary influences with her own strengths as a singer/songwriter to transform life experience and emotion into songs that express the fear, joy, pain, and love that connect us all. The Intermezzo Chamber Players is an alliance of talented composers, teachers, and performers. Comprised mainly of faculty from Denver’s Intermezzo Chamber Music Sessions music camp, guest colleagues from across the country and abroad are often invited to join in. Accomplished artists all, these musicians have performed around the world to considerable acclaim. Tonight, the Players will perform Haydn String Quartet, Op. 20, No. 2. The Russian Triunfal is a trio of highly talented and classically trained musicians, each bringing his individual interpretations to well known works of Astor Piazzolla, Jorge Cardoso and Johan Sebastian Bach, performed on balalaika, bayan and guitar. Among music specifically written for balalaika and bayan, many of their pieces are greatly influenced by Latin American and classical composers. Young but already widely known and loved by many dedicated fans, Vladimir Sedykh on balalaika, Eugene Simon on bayan, and guitarist Gregory Nisnevich make Triunfal the best of the best.
