Mr. Griggs, a native of New York City who has been based in Germany for the last seven years, will be presenting a series of concerts throughout New York State during the month of July/August/September. By combining Spanish and Brazilian guitar techniques with a jazz musician’s sensibility, Griggs offers a refreshingly different perspective to the classical guitar. In "500 Years of Music for Guitar", Griggs presents a chronological tour of the modern guitarist’s repertoire from the Renaissance to the Contemporary, with music by John Dowland, J.S. Bach, Mateo Carcassi, Bartolome Calatuyud, Django Reinhardt and Baden Powell - as well as his own compositions. He also includes some examples of Spanish Flamenco and Brazilian music on the program as well. Guitarist/Composer Peter Griggs has performed extensively at art centres, museums, festivals and concert venues throughout the USA and Europe. He has presented some 300 solo guitar concerts primarily in Germany and the United Kingdom - and almost everywhere from Oslo to Zagreb. . He has composed for internationally-known theatre and dance groups including Pan Asia Repertory Theatre (NY) and Compania Nacional de Danza de Espana (Madrid), and his soundtracks for documentary film and radio drama have been broadcast on WNET-TV (NY), National Public Radio (USA) and at the World-Wide Video Festival (The Hague, Netherlands). He has recorded on Treecastle Music, Folkways Records and Music of the World. Recent Reviews: "An almost unbelievable talent. Peter Griggs performs magic!" (Bergische Morgenpost, Germany) "A splash of Brazilian and Caribbean sunshine on adismal Inverness day! Guitarist Peter Griggs proved an accomplished technician with a good feel forthe idioms of Brazilian music." (Inverness Courier, UK) "His talent and technical ability was there for all to see." (Caithness Courier, UK) "A master of soft and expressive sounds on his instrument." (Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Germany)
