bLuE daHLia Nosferatu at the Box Factory bLuE daHLia breathes new life into Nosferatu this fall, with a re-vamped musical score. Performed live with silent film, bLuE daHLia’s accompaniment features modified instruments, pieces designed with “chance operations” à la John Cage, atmospheric ...improvisation, Dmitri Kabalevsky, eastern European folk, and a tip of the hat to Ralph Vaughn Williams. Nosferatu (1922) F.W. Murnau’s classic (and plagiaristic) treatment of Dracula, while not “terrifying” by today’s horrorshow standards, still manages to get good and creepy. A masterpiece of German Expressionism, the superimposed images, negative images, and the oddly angled castle architecture in Nosferatu set the stage for Max Schreck’s unsettling performance as Count Orlok.
