The Trades Club

1/23/2010 9:30 PM at The Beat + Fat Rascals
@ The Trades Club, Hebden Bridge, Northwest HX7 8EE
Cost: £12 / £15

Formed in the working class suburbs of industrial Birmingham in 1978, The Beat arose at a time of high unemployment and social upheaval. From the outset the band‘s message of hope and peace would later, alongside The Specials, see them heralded as forerunners of the 2-Tone Ska movement. Their hits include “Tears of a Clown”, “Mirror in the Bathroom”, “Can’t Get Used to Losing You”, “Hands Off … She’s Mine” and “Stand Down Margaret”. The Beat disbanded at the height of their fame but, after much urging, reformed in 2003, with Ranking Jnr on vocal duties alongside his dad, Ranking Roger. Their last gig at the Trades was a great night, so book early for this one. With support from local favourites the Fat Rascals.
