Four extraordinary women writers--representing diverse backgrounds and experiences--will read from autobiographical works. Jan Schmidt, who teaches Creative Writing and Women’s Biography at SUNY New Paltz, will introduce the event. Ione is a well-known author, playwright and poet who also travels the world as a teacher/healer. She will read from Pride of Family: Four Generations of American Women of Color. Johanna Reiss will read from A Hidden Life, which recounts her return to Holland--where she lived in hiding during World War II--and her husband’s subsequent suicide. Susan Richards, who discovered writing at age 45, will read from her bestselling memoir, Chosen by a Horse, "the story of two kindred spirits who find each other." Gail Straub, a leading authority in the field of empowerment, will read from Returning to my Mother’s House, a torch song to her deceased mother, and the tale of how she came to embrace her own feminine wisdom.
